103rd Annual • May 22, 23, 24 2020

Welcome To 'One Of Canada's Oldest'

103 years in the making

The Falkland Stampede is one of Canada’s oldest consecutive rodeos, celebrating its 103rd this upcoming May long weekend. The stock contractors, rodeo announcers, entertainers, and rodeo personnel are some of the most highly decorated professionals in the industry. The very first Falkland Stampede started in 1919 near the end of World War I when pioneer families gathered to celebrate Victoria Day with a community picnic. They came by wagon, buggy, and saddle horse to socialize, play a ball game, tug of war, and children’s races. One year a work horse, unbroke to saddle, was ridden by young Eddie King on a bet placed with George Poirier. The following year they built a small corral to hold the horses which were brought to town from the Falkland Ranch. After the picnic lunch, a jackpot purse was collected for the events. There was no fenced arena, and no pickup men. The cowboy had to ride his horse to standstill but sometimes the horse would run, and horse and rider would disappear into the trees at the edge of the clearing, or the cowboy would grab a tree branch and swing off the horses back.

Today, the Falkland Stampede has evolved into a Canadian Professional Rodeo featuring the very best cowboys, cowgirls, and animals this sport has to offer. This year Falkland is also including trick riders Shelby Pierson of Full Throttle Trick Riding and Piper Yule of Yule Ponies as the halftime entertainment. These talented ladies have performed at rodeos all over the world and have an act that will have rodeo fans on the edge of their seats.
For over 90 years the volunteers have worked hard to make this May Long Weekend one you will never forget!
